Oxbow Overlook Hiking Trail

This impressive and scenic overlook can be reached via a short hike near New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve consists of several different protected natural lands located across New Smyrna Beach and Port Orange, Florida. These areas are ideal for outdoor adventures like hiking, mountain biking and canoeing. One of the most popular areas to explore Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve is a trail head located at 1755 Martin’s Dairy Road in Port Orange, Florida. This trail head provides access to a wide variety of trails designed for hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian use.

This nature preserve has elevation changes and exceptional overlooks high above Spruce Creek. The Oxbow Overlook is located along the Overlook Trail. It is approximately a half-mile hike from the parking area to excellent views high atop a bluff overlooking the creek and marsh below. From the parking area you want to veer right, then continue straight until you see a sign pointing towards the Overlook Trail. From here it is a short uphill trip to the overlook. Along with great views this area is historically significant, having been home to tribes of indigenous Floridians for centuries.  If you would like a longer and more strenuous hike you can continue along the trails to the Sunset Bluff Overlook.

The trail head is free to visit and open daily from sunrise until sunset. Another great area of Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve to explore nearby is Spruce Creek Park to the Northeast. At this location you can find scenic trails and boardwalks to impressive fishing piers and an observation deck. You can use also our Interactive Map to find more places to explore near Orlando.
