Wekiwa Springs State Park

A beautiful swimming hole with cool, clear water and a gorgeous river which is among the best places to paddle in the Orlando area.

Wekiwa Springs State Park is a 7,000 acre state park renowned for its beautiful crystal clear spring water.  The spring produces forty-two million gallons of water every day with a constant temperature of 72 degrees – ideal for swimming on a hot day.  The spring water flows into the Wekiva River which offers excellent canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding.

Some of the natural wildlife visitors may expect to see include countless fish, turtles, and the occasional alligator.  During some of my canoe voyages down the river I have seen as many as six different alligators basking on the banks of the river.  If you would prefer to stay on dry land you are not out of luck – there is a playground, picnic areas, and 13 miles of hiking trails at this exceptional state park, as well.

Wekiwa Springs State Park is located just North-West of Orlando in Apopka, Florida (approximately a half-hour drive from Downtown Orlando and forty-five minutes from Walt Disney World, depending heavily on traffic).  Admission to the park is $4.00 for a single occupant vehicle, $6.00 per vehicle with 2-8 passengers, and $2.00 for pedestrians, bicyclists, and extra passengers.  When planning a trip to Wekiwa Springs State Park it is HIGHLY recommended you arrive early, especially on weekends and holidays in the summer.  The park is very popular and sometimes reaches maximum capacity and will not admit more visitors until others leave and space opens up.
